Dallas North Tollway improvements begin March 28

DNT I-South map_32216On Monday, March 28, construction will begin on the next section of the Dallas North Tollway (DNT). Drivers traveling on the DNT just south of the President George Bush Turnpike will see construction crews restriping lanes, adding safety barriers and updating speed limit signs. The NTTA Board of Directors approved the change in speed limit on the Tollway between the PGBT and Belt Line Road in January.

“Once completed, these projects will provide a significant benefit to the traveling public,” said NTTA Assistant Executive Director of Infrastructure Elizabeth Mow. “NTTA is lowering speed limits so workers and drivers can operate safely in the construction zone. We appreciate our customers’ increased attention within the work zones.”

The current 60 mph speed limit between the Sam Rayburn Tollway and the Bush Turnpike will be extended south to Frankford Road. The speed limit between Frankford and Belt Line roads will be lowered to 55 mph. These enforceable speed limits will remain in place for the duration of construction.

Improvements that will be made during construction along the DNT between the PGBT and Belt Line Road will include:

  • Restriping to add a fourth lane on southbound DNT between the Bush Turnpike and the Belt Line Road exit
  • Restriping to extend the existing fourth lane on northbound DNT between Trinity Mills Road exit and the Bush Turnpike
  • Overlaying a new surface on the existing pavement
  • Relocating the existing light poles from the center median to the outside of the roadway

The DNT Improvement Projects are needed to respond to the increase in traffic demand with added capacity for motorists. For more information on the DNT Improvement Projects, visit ProgressNTTA.org, email ProgressNTTA@NTTA.org or call (972) 628-3134.
