Sen. Royce West keynote at UNT Dallas Law College’s Convocation

UNT Dallas College of Law celebrates their third class of incoming law students in a Convocation ceremony. The event brings together new students and their families and friends; dignitaries from the city, county, state and the Dallas Bar Association; faculty and staff of the College of Law; and, guests from the legal, education, business and general communities. The event last year drew 600+ attendees and this year expects a similar turnout.

The student population at UNT Dallas College of Law is an inclusive group reflecting the demographics of our communities. The students represent all age ranges, many hold advanced degrees, and many have a significant career or military experience. About 50 percent are students of color.

Senator Royce West, a champion of the school, is slated to be the keynote speaker. He will also administer the law school’s Professionalism Pledge to the incoming students as part of the ceremony. The Professionalism Pledge was introduced at the Law school’s Inaugural Convocation in August 2014.

Eleven students from the second and third-year classes will receive faculty-voted awards.

The DeSoto High School JROTC color guard will open and close the Convocation ceremony for the third consecutive year.

Current enrollment at UNT Dallas College of includes one class of 1Ls (first-year law students), one class of 2Ls (second-year law students), and one class of 3Ls (third-year law students).Created by the Texas Legislature in 2009, UNT Dallas College of Law began recruiting students in September 2013 and seated the Inaugural Class in August 2014.

Although UNT Dallas College of Law is only in its third year of full operations, the new public law school in the heart of downtown Dallas is bringing something new to legal education. Goals at UNT Dallas College of Law reflect a strong commitment to an integrated vision encompassing new approaches to curriculum, tuition, and admissions designed to address gaps in access to legal education, access to affordable legal services, and the changing demographics of the state and region.
