AUSTIN – George P. Bush, Texas Land Commissioner and Chairman of the Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB), is encouraging all veterans attending the Texas State Fair to visit the VLB booth in the Go Texan Pavilion to find information about resources and benefits for Texas Veterans, military members and their families.

“The VLB provides Texas veterans with benefits and services beyond those of the federal government and one of the great privileges of serving as Texas Land Commissioner is spreading the word to my fellow veterans,” Commissioner Bush said. “Our veterans earned these benefits and it is our job to let them know using social media, news reports, and meeting with veterans where they work and play. I encourage my fellow veterans to grab some BBQ or deep fried Jello and chat with VLB team members about benefits they might not know they’ve earned.”

The Texas VLB team members will be at the booth in the Go Texan Pavilion from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The team will help Texas veterans learn about improved state and federal benefits.

As Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office, Bush also serves as chairman of the Veterans Land Board (VLB). This division of the GLO provides veterans with access to land, home and home improvement loans that allow them to purchase their very own piece of Texas. Additionally, the VLB offers Texas State Veterans Cemeteries to honor those who have served, as well as Texas State Veterans Homes that provide care for veterans, their spouses and Gold Star parents in the dignified setting they deserve.

This year Commissioner Bush is visiting cities and towns across Texas to raise awareness within the veteran community about the benefits and services available to them as part of the “Year of the Veteran” initiative. Commissioner Bush is currently the only veteran non-judicial statewide elected official in Texas. He served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan as an officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Commissioner Bush believes prioritizing veterans services and outreach will help Texas continue to be the best state in the nation not just for current veterans, but also for the next generation of soldier, sailor, airman and marine.
