Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Kappa Zeta Chapter was organized by Dr. Helen Wilson Johnson at her home in December of 1931. There were approximately twelve members in attendance and like other Zeta chapters; Kappa Zeta had as its objective the ideals of service, scholarship and sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood. These principles are the central focus of all the chapter’s programs and activities.
The Kappa Zeta Chapter has continued its rich legacy of celebrating scholarship, service, sisterhood and Finer Womanhood in the Dallas community for the past 85 years. Over the last 50 years, numerous women in the Dallas area have been honored as Kappa Zeta’s Woman of the Year – introduced between 1946 and 1948 which annually recognizes a non-Zeta woman who exemplifies the ideal of Finer Womanhood through her service in the community.
Kappa Zeta has maintained several of its historical (yet current) programs, fundraisers (such as Miss Blue Revue, Taste of Blue, etc.), the Elder Care Initiative: Precious GEMs, Stork’s Nest programming, community service projects, scholarships and much more over the years. This chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated also achieved the GOLD Level of the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) at over 1920 volunteer hours for community service as well as raised over $14,300 for March of Dimes last year.
This year the Kappa Zeta chapter was recognized as the sorority’s largest chapter and the chapter that had the biggest new member intake class during the Sorority’s 2016 International Grand Boulé.
Throughout the chapter’s continuous 85 year history, Kappa Zeta membership has continued to grow, their programs serving the Dallas community has multiplied along with it. Other distinguished activities sponsored by Kappa Zeta were Health & Wellness Fair, Generation to Generation Chat, Undergraduate Summit and more. The chapter also present several scholarships and awards during it at the annual Dove Awards Ceremony.
