Local nonprofit seeking Christmas gifts for single moms

Gifts For Moms, (GFM) a nonprofit organization that supports single parents, is seeking donations for single moms. While most Christmas gift drives involve toys for children, Gifts For Moms focuses on the needs of the parent.

“We believe that a parent’s happiness is central to the happiness of the child.  If we can help a mother to feel happy and valued, she is a better mom to her children,” said Stephanie Pierre, the organization’s founder.

In 2013, Ward shared with the North Dallas Gazette the unique challenge facing single moms during the holiday season. “Christmas can be a very isolating time if you are a single parent with small children. I can remember when my children were small and I would sit alone on Christmas day watching them open toys and I had nothing. I felt guilty for wanting something, because I know a mother is supposed to be happy that her children are happy, but the holiday made me feel more isolated,” Ward said.

Gifts for Moms works with struggling families in Collin and Dallas counties  to help them find the resources they need when they need them most. For the past eight years, GFM has provided resources for food, transportation, housing, and other needs.

They are currently accepting  donations for the 2016 single moms Christmas gift drive. GFM’s goal is to provide a Christmas gift for the 125 mothers on their waiting list.  The items they are seeking include a contribution of  gift cards, cash, or an unwrapped gift.  The received gifts will be distributed during GFM’s annual Christmas Party on Dec. 17 in Plano.  To donate a gift, visit their website or give them a call and they will make arrangements to pick up your donation.
