The Winston School will participate in the High School Solar Car Challenge at the world famous Texas Motor Speedway in July 2017. A team of ten students has already begun building a solar car to continue the legacy of Winston Solar through their innovations and ideas.

Through the application of science, engineering and alternative energy, the students are learning how to design, engineer, build and race roadworthy solar cars. The end product is the Solar Car Challenge, a closed-track event at the Texas Motor Speedway.
“I’m involved in solar because I feel that it provides me with skills for the future and a step up in an emgerging field,” said Boone Munson, senior team captain for Winston Solar.
With her extensive background in science education and experience from First Robotics, Ms. Charlene Olson will head the Winston team, along with Mr. Emmanuel Gillespie, who brings additional experience in welding and metal shop. The combine expertise of both Charlene and Emmanuel in the program will help guide the students.
“What I hope to accomplish is simple, to help build a solar car that will be one of many inspirations for an eco-friendly solar car of the future,” said student Connor Homan.
The Winston Solar team has just launched their new website, www.winstonsolar.com, which provides details about the solar car construction process, an inside look at the team and its members, and instructions for how to donate and get involved.
The Winston School is grateful for any and all community support as they move forward with the new generation of students and updated solar car design.
