The 2018 Community Impact Awards Luncheon was held on Nov. 8 at the Thanksgiving Square, Tower Club, in Dallas. Hosted by the Community Council of Greater Dallas, the theme for this year’s event was A Tale of Two Cities: Reshaping the Possibilities. Through their efforts, they are trying to change the way nonprofits work together. For this year’s program Tom Leppert, President and CEO of Kaplan, and former Mayor of Dallas was the keynote speaker.
The Community Council strives to make a difference in the community by serving as the quarterback in Dallas’ nonprofit arena. The organization, led by CEO Ken Goodgames, works with several nonprofits across North Texas, to accelerate and improve changes in the communities while building a stronger spirit of collaboration. They help families seeking assistance by helping them gain healthcare, paying bills, and gaining skills and training they need to advance economically.
2018 Award Winners
At the luncheon, several Dallas leaders were awarded for their work in the community. They included:
Jennifer Sampson, CEO of United Way Metropolitan Dallas was awarded the 2018 Community Impact Awardee – Distinguished Service Leader.
Michael Sorrell, President of Paul Quinn College was awarded the 2018 Community Impact Awardee – Distinguished Leader Education.
Dr. Elba Garcia, Dallas County Commissioner District 4, was awarded the 2018 Community Impact Awardee – Distinguished Civic Leader
Chad Houser, Café Momentum, was awarded the 2018 Community Impact Awardee – Distinguished Emerging Leader.
The All of Us Collaborator Awardees were: Dr. Chrisette Dharma, Southwest Family Medicine Associates, Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, III, Friendship West Baptist Church, Dr. Mari Tietze, Texas Woman’s University, Dr. Giovanni Filardo, Baylor Scott & White Health, and Jane Hunley, Parkland Health & Hospital System.
