Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alpha Xi Omega Chapter hosts Family Flourish: A health fair for all ages

A Community Event Offering Free Mammograms, Dental Exams, Vision Assessments, Blood Pressure Checks and More

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Alpha Xi Omega Chapter, the first and largest graduate chapter in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, will host a free health and wellness event titled, “Family Flourish: A Health Fair for All Ages” on September 21, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The free community event will take place at the West Dallas Center located at 3330 N. Hampton Road, Dallas, Texas 75212.

In an effort to uplift the local community and empower families, the “Family Flourish: A Health Fair for All Ages” will offer over 30 vendors that will provide a wide range of services including mental health education and insurance information. There will also be a host of free health screenings including mammograms, STI testing, flu shots, blood pressure and cholesterol checks, dental exams, and vision assessments. Attendees will also have the chance to get hands-on learning with CPR demonstrations and participate in energetic cardio dance sessions. All screenings are free; however, registration is required to donate blood and to receive a mammogram. Please register by visiting  www.akaaxo.org.

Alpha Xi Omega Chapter has partnered with several health and wellness organizations including Parkland Hospital, HHM Health, The American Red Cross, The National Breast Cancer Foundation, Texas A&M School of Dentistry, Prevent Blindness Texas, The Family Place, Aetna Medicare Solutions, and the Dallas WIC office.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Alpha Xi Omega Chapter, was established in Dallas, Texas, on June 6, 1929. Mrs. Florence Harlee Phelps, a Howard University graduate, initiated the effort to establish a chapter of the first Greek letter sorority for African American women in her hometown.   From its beginning, the chapter has continuously given college scholarships to Dallas students. Other programs have included: vocational counseling and guidance for high school students; health and other social service initiatives for women and children; support of the African American family; and support to developing art, cultural and educational institutions and groups. As Alpha Xi Omega Chapter embarks on its 95th anniversary, it is poised and ready to deliver even greater service to underserved Dallas residents. This large group of exceptionally talented, college-educated African American women is committed to serving humankind and improving the quality of life for all.
