Dallas residents will be safer thanks to a new battery-operated vehicle that’s being funded through a $6,136 grant from two insurance companies — McQueary Henry Bowles Troy, L.L.P (MHBT) and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company.

Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) is receiving a new medical cart that enables EMS personnel to respond to emergency situations at large indoor venues where gas-operated carts are not allowed. The cart accommodates a driver, passenger, two attendants and a stretcher.

By City ordinance, DFR provides medical services at special events throughout the City. “When somebody suffers from a medical emergency or a traumatic accident, time is of the essence,” said Chief Seals. “This unit is a great
alternative for us and will dramatically improve our ability to respond to various incidents.”

DFR officials, firefighters, executives and employees from MHBT and Fireman’s Fund came together for a special public event and demonstration of the new medical cart.

The grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic program funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. The program is designed to provide needed equipment, training and educational tools to local fire departments and burn prevention organizations. Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has issued grants to nearly 1,800 different organizations totaling more than $29 million. Through the program, independent insurance agencies and brokers that sell Fireman’s Fund products, like MHBT, are able to direct these grants to support the fire service.

“We are proud to be able to help Dallas firefighters in such a tangible way,” said Robbie Smith, COO of MHBT. “Budget restraints prevent local fire departments from going out and purchasing unique items like this, and we’re hopeful it will help make the community safer.”
