Pastor Robert E. Price leaves a legacy of service in Dallas and Carrollton

Pastor Robert E. Price Sr. was the longtime pastor of New Mount Zion Baptist in Dallas, Texas. Before becoming the pastor of New Mount Zion Baptist in Dallas, Price served at Keller Springs Baptist Church in Carrollton. Pastor Price died at home in his sleep at the age of 80 on Saturday, July 14.

Under Pastor Price’s leadership New Mount Zion Baptist Church grew to the point that their ministry of service to the community included its own credit union and food bank. He served his church for over 40 years and grew a church of 20 members to a roster of over 2,000.

Pastor Price was one of 11 children, born in Smithville. While growing up, Price became involved in the church, helping out often. He met his wife Deloris while attending Prairie View A&M University, and they moved to Dallas and had three children. Pastor Price worked for a mortgage bank for nearly three decades, before exclusively focusing his time on his church commitments.

An original Hamilton Park homeowner in North Dallas, Pastor Price was a key inspiration to his community who loved to serve the Lord and others. In 2007, the Robert E. Price Post Office on Forest Lane was named in his honor.

Church attendees on Sunday were saddened to learn of Pastor Price’s passing, yet rejoiced as they remembered his many accomplishments. Members described Pastor Price as more than a pastor; he was a father and family figure who brought much love as he dedicated his life to sharing the Gospel of Christ.
