Cassandra Elyse Norwood of Athens, Georgia has been charged with stabbing her newborn baby boy to death only hours after his birth. The 21-year-old faces charges of murder and aggravated assault for the death of her newborn.

Norwood lives at home with family members on Great Oak Drive in the Waverly Woods subdivision off Whit Davis Road in Georgia. She gave birth to her newborn in one part of the house without the detection of anyone else in the house knowing. When someone found the lifeless infant, authorities were called to the location. Police discovered the slain infant who was killed only shortly after birth.

“From what we were able to determine, the child was born at the residence,” said Capt. Clarence Holeman, commander of the Athens-Clarke police Centralized Criminal Investigations Division.

Norwood was treated in a hospital for loss of blood from when she delivered the baby. She was then booked by police in Clarke County Jail, where she is held without bond. It is unclear what the mental state of Norwood is, what her motives for killing the infant may be, and whether she has an attorney or not to represent her. Court hearings for this case are pending.
