Irving’s Bear Creek Community Church are launching the Bear Creek Community Garden, just in time for the 2013 growing season. They are inviting the public to come out on Dec. 1 from 1 – 4 p.m. for special kickoff events.
The garden will be located at 2700 Finley Road in Irving and invite the community to come and learn more about the opportunities to learn more about gardening while helping the community. Visitors will receive information about the garden plots they can select and use to cultivate and grow food for their own family’s use. They are also invited to grow food to help the church provide fresh food for local charities and food pantries. All interested visitors will have the opportunity to work the soil and enjoy the joys of gardening while working side-by-side and fellowshipping with others in the community.
The events will feature demonstrations and information provided by:
- Fran Witte with the City of Irving’s Parks and Recreation will talk about Gardening, Composting and Green Living
- Rich Hose from the City of Irving’s Keep Irving Beautiful will discuss community involvement in our neighborhood
- Dudly Hargrove, a Texas Master Gardener, will provide tips on raised bed gardening.
Also members of the Bear Creek Community Garden Committee will be on hand to provide information on how to reserve a garden plot in 2013.
