Black celebrity birthday for January 4: Floyd Patterson

Floyd Patterson was born on Jan. 4, 1935, in Waco, North Carolina. He learned to box while attending a school for emotionally disturbed children. He won a gold medal in the 1952 Olympics and went pro that year. He was smaller than most boxers, but had speed and an unusual style of boxing. He won two heavyweight championships and retired in 1972, after winning 55 fights out of 64.
