Dallas DA Craig Watkins issues an apology for misinformation shared on murder of Mark Hasse

Earlier today Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins during an interview indicated an arrest had been made in the investigation of the murder of Mark Hasse on yesterday. However, Kaufman officials have indicated that no arrest has been made.

Moments ago the following statement was released by the DA’s spokesperson:

“Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins offers his sincere apology for releasing inaccurate information in the murder investigation of Mark Hasse. Watkins said, ‘I received what I thought was credible information and regret that the source was wrong. In hindsight it was inappropriate to comment, and I am sorry for any confusion this caused.’

The Dallas DA’s Office looks forward to assisting Kaufman County Law Enforcement in any way possible. ‘Assistant District Attorney Hasse was a tenacious chief felony prosecutor who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of justice,’ said Craig Watkins.”

Watkins has also indicated that it is unlikely Kaufman County prosecutors will be able to handle the prosecution once arrests are made, because the victim was a prosecutor in their office. He stated an interest in prosecuting the case, or offering assistance to the jurisdiction Kaufman County chooses because Hasse was a former prosecutor in Dallas County.
