Plano is the top bikeable city in Texas and 47th of large U.S. cities, according to Walk Score. The ranking was based on cities of more than 100,000 in population. Plano prides itself on having an extensive bike trail system that encompasses 70 miles of shared-use paths.
In 2001, Plano became part of The Six Cities Trail Plan that identifies mutual points for trail connections between McKinney, Allen, Frisco, Richardson and Garland. Last December a bridge was installed across Rowlett Creek at U.S. 75, making Plano’s first intercity connection with Allen.
The next connection for Plano will be at Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve where a path will go under K Avenue and make a second connection to Allen. When this project is completed later this summer, people will be able to take paths from 18th Street at Bob Woodruff Park to Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve, travel under Jupiter Road, K Avenue and U.S. 75. They can continue along the on-street bicycling routes on Chase Oaks Boulevard and Spring Creek Parkway and beyond on Bluebonnet trail and either connect to Chisholm Trail on Preston Ridge or go all the way to Preston Road.
