Garland Symphony Orchestra hosting KidsNotes at Preston Library on June 25

footer-logoGARLAND – Children love about music even if they are not as musically inclined as mom and dad might like. The Garland Symphony Orchestra plan to offer a program to introduce information about musical instruments to the young guests at KidsNotes. The Orchestra will present the KidsNotes program at the Preston Royal Library branch on Tuesday, June 25 at 2 p.m.

KidsNotes is a one-hour program that begins with the reading of a book such as, Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin or The Remarkable Farkle McBride” which introduces the different families of instruments in an engaging and fun way. Next, depending on the age of the participants, students engage in games that explore musical concepts like pitch, rhythm, and timbre.

Then one of the professional musicians introduces and plays their instrument, choosing music suitable for a young audience. To finish up, they program features  an Instrument Petting Zoo! which allows children to try out an instrument from each of the four orchestra families to learn more about their favorites!

Early exposure to music and the arts is crucial to developing the creative spark in children. And continual evidence has shown that children engaged in musical education perform well above national classroom standards. KidsNotes is offered at many area schools, libraries, and bookstores throughout the year. Due to generous contributions from public and private donors, the KidsNotes program is offered free of charge to the community.

KidsNotes  is scheduled for Tuesday, June 25 at the Preston Royal Library at 2 p.m.
