Dallas Fire Engine hit as leaving fire station

270DALLAS – A Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) fire engine was struck while responding to an emergency call. Thankfully, none of the firefighters on board the apparatus were injured, but it was certainly an impact they won’t soon forget.

While responding from their fire station, at the 300 block of East Camp Wisdom Road, they pulled out into the westbound lanes of traffic with their lights and sirens running. After approximately 10-15 seconds had passed, while they were waiting (in the westbound lanes) on the eastbound lanes of traffic to either yield or clear, they proceeded forward when the opportunity presented. Soon after they began moving, a westbound traveling car struck the fire engine, on the driver side, just behind the pump panel.

While ensuring the well being of each other, and notifying fire dispatch, firefighters immediately got out to assist the person who had impacted them. Despite the amount of damage to the car, the driver (an adult male) was communicating with rescuers. After units were dispatched to the accident, as well as an alternate unit being dispatched to the original call, he was taken by DFR rescue unit to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
