PROSPER – The Prosper Community Picnic returns for its second year on Saturday, Sept. 7 as the Town, along with its sponsoring partners, play host to residents at Frontier Park from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., according to Will Mitchell, Parks and Recreation Manager.
“The second annual community picnic will bring back some of last year’s favorite activities, and add some new ones that promise to make it a memorable event for the Town’s residents. We are very grateful to our co-sponsors, who help make this a wonderful event,” he said.
As in last year’s inaugural picnic, there will be free hot dogs and soft drinks courtesy of area houses of worship. The Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Church and its congregants will supply the hot dogs, buns, condiments and utensils. And, members of Prosper United Methodist Church are supplying the soft drinks and water. Serving will occur from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and only while supplies last. Kona Ice will have their refreshing frozen drinks for sale at a reduced price.
In addition to the food and drinks, picnic planners have arranged for bounce houses, rides, games, attractions, music, a show by basketball magician Crazy George, face painting, balloon artistry, LEGO station, and an obstacle course for kids.
“All of these additional fun things to do at the community picnic are on top of what’s already at the park like Windmill Playground with its many ins and outs, and the ever-popular splash pad, and of course, acres of open space. It will truly be a community picnic with activities for everyone,” he added.
In addition to the Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Church and the Prosper United Methodist Church, other sponsors include the Texas Legends, of which Crazy George is a part, and Live and Prosper Magazine.
The food lines will close at 6 p.m., or earlier should supplies run out. Many of the attractions, however, will remain open until about 8 p.m.
