AUSTIN – State Representative Rafael Anchia, Texas State Representative for House District 103, was appointed to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) last week by 2013 by DNC Chair, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Rep. Anchia is one of 75 appointed at-large members and one of four appointed Texans, the others being Montserrat Garibay, Carol Guthrie, and Alejandra Salinas.
“I am grateful for the confidence placed in me by Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz,” said Rep. Anchia, “and I am also excited by the prospect of working with fellow Democrats across the country to continue the progress we have made under President Obama’s leadership.”
The appointment is effective immediately and will last through the 2016 Democratic National Convention. As a member of the DNC, Rafael becomes an ex-officio member of the State Democratic Executive Committee, the governing body of the Texas Democratic Party.
The appointment also brings with it the title of Super Delegate and he will serve as such to the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
As a member of the DNC, Rafael will participate in the decision-making process regarding the rules of the party, including delegate selection and the rules pertaining to the primaries.
“This is an exciting time to be a Democrat, both nationally and here in Texas, “ Rep. Anchia continued. “We have made enormous strides in the past five years in the areas of human rights, immigration reform, education reform and rebuilding our economy, and I am proud to have the opportunity to work alongside party leaders as we continue our efforts to ensure a brighter future for all our citizens.”
