“Love Your Limbs Event” offers free screenings to prevent limb loss

image002Between 8 to 10 million Americans suffer from peripheral artery disease (PAD), a lesser-known cardiovascular disease that develops when plaque builds up in the arteries of the legs. In addition to raising the risk of heart attack and stroke, PAD can also lead to amputation.

To help prevent limb loss, Methodist Charlton Medical Center is offering a “Love Your Limbs” event with free ankle-brachial index (ABI) screenings. This quick and easy test measures blood pressure at the ankle and in the arm while a person is at rest. The test takes about five minutes. Physicians will be on hand to explain signs, symptoms, ABI results, and treatment.

“Love Your Limbs” will be held Saturday, September 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Methodist Charlton Outpatient Center Auditorium. Methodist Charlton is located at 3500 W. Wheatland Road in Dallas, near the intersection of Highway 67 and Interstate 20. Free parking is available in the parking garage and parking lot near the Outpatient Center.
