Miss Black Texas America CoEd this weekend in Garland

422839_10151079596309624_1254005195_n-1.jpgDALLAS – For more than a decade, the Miss Black Texas Pageant, produced by Black All-American Pageant Systems, Inc., has promoted community service, self-esteem and encouraged young women everywhere to create an alternate standard of beauty, celebrate her unique features and love the skin she’s in.

To expand the positive messages and national outreach, Black All-American Pageant Systems, Inc. has given Miss Black Texas a face-lift. The popular competition is now Miss Black Texas America CoEd (Miss Black Texas) and under the umbrella of the national Miss Black America CoEd system.

Miss Black America CoEd offers young women an opportunity for education and career advancement and has doubled the past grand-prize scholarship to $10,000. In addition, the system offers more than $40,000 in annual scholarships to additional titleholders in a commitment to produce the next generation of scholars and community servants. Miss Black Texas America CoEd /Miss Black America CoEd serves the following age divisions: Princess 5-9, Preteen 10-13, Teen 14-17, Miss 18-27, Ms. 21-35 and Plus 21-35.

The first pageant under the new name of Miss Black Texas America CoEd will be held this weekend, Sept. 21-22 at The Granville Arts Center at 300 N. 5th Street, in Garland.

Pageant weekend kicks-off with ‘The Girls Empowerment Symposium’, a free and open to the public viewing party and panel discussion on the OWN network’s documentary, Dark Girls.

Even in what is considered a ‘post-racial America’, some women of African or mixed-African ancestry struggle with accepting the color of their skin. This silent battle often leads to self-esteem issues and deep emotional scars.

The goal of the symposium is to discover constructive ways to build self-esteem in women of color. The panel features notables including Miss Black Texas USA 2013 Dymond Hayes, Tasha Cato, local mother helping her daughter overcome skin tone issues, and Kayla Adams motivational speaker and author of the book There’s Beauty in the Rainbow, helping all girls to love the skin they’re in.

Pageant weekend continues with exciting competition elements the community has grown to love, including the interview, fitness, talent, evening gown, and the famous question and answer competition. Please see schedule below:
