DALLAS — The fifth annual North Texas Giving Day dominated North Texas with free events, flash mobs and an astounding amount of donations. It crushed the national record by raising more than $25.2 million in 17 hours, surpassing 2012 results by $10.8 million. The number of donations nearly doubled this year with 1,351 nonprofits benefitting from 75,000 donations made through the DonorBridge website.
“In only five days since 2009, $60 million has been raised for local nonprofits on North Texas Giving Day,” says Brent Christopher, president and CEO of Communities Foundation of Texas, which founded and presents North Texas Giving Day. “We are so humbled by the generosity of all the donors who rallied today to make our community a better place to live and work.”
Heartwarming stories streamed in, including one about a formerly homeless client from Arlington Life Shelter who this year was able to pay it forward by donating to the shelter on North Texas Giving Day.
From 7 AM to midnight, donors from around the world representing all 50 states and more than 35 countries gave to North Texas nonprofits. Twenty-six percent of donations were from first-time givers to their chosen charity.
“North Texas has proven once again that they believe in the power of nonprofits and the impact those organizations make on our community,” said Center for Nonprofit Management President Cynthia B. Nunn. “It’s because of this support that together we can leave a lasting footprint for generations to come. We are so grateful to those who donated because we can’t do our great work without you!”
Top overall earners were Rocky Top Therapy Center ($800,625), The Salvation Army DFW Metroplex Command ($734,544), and E3 Partners Ministry ($464,645).

The 2013th donation prize of $10,000 was awarded to: Presbyterian Community Services $10,000 funded by The Dallas Foundation.
25TH, 250TH, 2,500TH and 25,000TH donation prize was awarded to Dallas Wind Symphony, MakeAWay Charities, Dallas Area Interfaith Sponsoring Committee, and Arms of Home, respectively, marking the 25th anniversary of Harold Simmons Foundation.
