The next National Theatre Live broadcast will be the premiere of Nicholas Hytner’s acclaimed National Theatre production of Shakespeare’s Othello, with Adrian Lester in the title role and Rory Kinnear as Iago. This September 26 performance will be captured live and rebroadcast in HD to the Angelika Dallas on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 12 at 2:00 p.m. The Angelika Plano will play on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 2:00 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m. Othello, newly married to Desdemona who is half his age, is appointed leader of a military operation to defend Cyprus from the Turks. Iago, his ensign, passed over for promotion in favor of young Cassio, persuades Othello that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair. The Times of London called the production “A breathtaking show of emotional firepower. Adrian Lester and Rory Kinnear are superb.” The Daily Telegraph said Othello is “Witty, agile, lucid and deeply felt. A gripping production of a tragedy which is also an intensely painful psychological thriller.” CLICK HERE to view the Othello trailer.
