McKinney to spray area of city for mosquitoes on Sept. 25

Mckinney TexasMcKinney is set to spray an area of the city in order to control mosquitoes after a positive mosquito pool for West Nile Virus was confirmed. Weather permitting, the spraying will take place Wednesday, Sept. 25 between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. The spray area is generally in an area south of Virginia St., west of Tennessee St., north of Market Place Dr. and Stewart Rd., and east of U.S. 75.

Signs will be posted at major intersections to notify residents of spraying activity and information and a map of the spray area will be posted on the city’s website at www.mckinneytexas.org/mosquitocontrol.

Residents in the spray area are advised to stay indoors during the spray period and should bring their pets inside that evening. Residents who do not want to spray near their home may contact the City of McKinney Health Compliance at (972) 547-7447.

McKinney residents are reminded to follow the Four Ds until the first freeze this fall. Residents should drain all standing water; dress in light-colored, long-sleeved clothing when outdoors; use a mosquito repellant that contains DEET; and stay indoors at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.

Residents may report standing water, illegal dumping and increased mosquito activity through McKinney’s West Nile Information line: 972-547-7473.
