Mayor Pro Tem Tennell Atkins to present Annual District 8 Unified National Night Out event

imagesMayor Pro Tem Tennell Atkins, District 8, will host a National Night Out crime prevention event Oct. 1 at Meadow Stone Park from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Residents are encouraged to attend the event to meet their neighbors, crime watch groups, City of Dallas representatives and various service providers. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the introduction of National Night Out an effort to promote organized neighborhood involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships and neighborhood solidarity.

“Everyone is invited to attend to help make their community safer. This will be a good opportunity for residents to visit with their neighbors and meet City officials,” said Mayor Pro Tem Atkins.

The Dallas Police Department, Code Compliance Services, Streets Services, Dallas Water Utilities, Housing, Library Services, Dallas Park and Recreation, Sanitation, Dallas Fire Rescue, and Dallas Water Utilities will be among the City departments participating. Department mascots will also be on-hand to entertain and educate guests, they include: McGruff the Crime Dog; DFR Sparky the Fire Dog; DEW; 911 Cell Phone Sally; Kool Kat and Trinity Trudy.

Residents will also enjoy free food, beverages and performances by the David W. Carter High School marching band and drill team, Anita Martinez Ballet Folkorico, Indian Cultural Heritage Foundation, a fall fashion show powered by CATO. The first 200 persons (*must be 18 years or older) will receive tote bags by CATO. Other prizes drawings include bikes, gift cards and many more items. Small kids can enjoy the children’s fun zone with a play area, face painting, games, and arts and crafts. Residents are encouraged to bring a pre-sliced dessert to share and lawn chairs.

Music will be powered by 94.5 FM – Old School and 97.9 FM – The Beat. Sponsors of this community event include #JFKDay, Walmart, CATO at Wheatland Rd, CitiTrends, ATMOS Energy, DART, Moroch, Dallas County Schools, South Texas Dental, Volunteer Center of North Texas, Twisted Sugar Cookies & Cupcakes, Target and the City of Dallas.
