DALLAS — Standing with representatives from local non-profit organizations, Dallas County Commissioner Elba Garcia announced on Wednesday that she is donating over $17,000 of her salary as county commissioner to local charities.
Fulfilling her campaign promise to donate a portion of her commissioner’s salary to charity, Commissioner Garcia announced the names of 21 local charities that will be receiving the gifts.
“During my campaign in 2010 I made several pledges. To bring more transparency to the Commissioners Court; to put agendas, minutes and video of the Court online; and to move important District 4 projects forward, “ Garcia said. “I have fulfilled these promises, and I am very proud of the progress we have made so far. But I think this is the promise that I am always happiest to be able to keep.”
The donations for this year total $17,500. Representatives of the charities were grateful to receive the gifts and thanked the Commissioner for her support. This is the third year that Garcia has held this event. Through these charitable donation events, Commissioner Garcia has donated a total of $53,600 to 71 charities and non-profit organizations since her election in 2010.
This year’s charities are primarily located in Commissioner District 4, but reach residents throughout Dallas County. A complete list of the selected charities for 2013 is below.
