Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio’s 19 year old daughter, Chiara, is admitting she has been battling depression and substance abuse.

She made the admission in a video posted on Christmas Eve.

You can read the statement from her parents here on New York’s ABC station web page.

Perhaps this will help open the door to an honest conversation about depression in the African American community and among youth of all races.

What do you think about her admission and decision to disclose it?

  1. …telling the truth can set you free…these personal battles are one thing that her detractors can’t tell on her because she told it first…she hereby gets a degree of freedom from future attacks about these problems…

  2. Absolutely agree. I was always taught tell the truth yourself, then no one can try to “blackmail” you with the ghosts in your closet.
