Texas State Representative Rafael Anchia, a partner at Haynes and Boone, LLP, will be honored by the Dallas Bar Association at the 21st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Luncheon as the recipient of the 2014 Martin Luther King Jr. Justice Award at a noon luncheon on Monday, Jan. 20, at The Belo Mansion (2101 Ross Avenue in downtown Dallas). The event is open to the public.

The award is presented to local leaders whose lives and practice exemplifies the principles embodied by Dr. King’s leadership. Former recipients include the late Hon. Barefoot Sanders, Senator Royce West, Mayor Ron Kirk, Kim Askew, Commissioner John Wiley Price, Rhonda Hunter, E. Leon Carter, Dr. Walter Sutton, Jr. and Justice Carolyn Wright.

“Rafael is truly a worthy recipient of this Award,” said DBA President Scott McElhaney. “His commitment to creating a more fair and just society has been a guidepost throughout his career in public service, and his works should serve as an inspiration to us all.”

During his service in the legislature, Representative Anchia has worked tirelessly on legislation to protect civil rights, improve public safety, protect our environment and improve health coverage for women and children. Representative Anchia has received numerous community awards, including the American Jewish Committee’s Institute of Human Relations Award, Texas Lawyer’s Extraordinary Minority in Texas Law and LULAC’s National “Man of the Year.”

The MLK award luncheon is open to the public; the plated lunch costs $12.76. RSVPs are required. Contact bavina@dallasbar.org. For more information, call (214) 220-7400.
