‘Mr. Parkinson’s and Me’ presents multi-faceted account of Parkinson’s,its effects
WINDCREST, Texas – The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation reports that approximately one million Americans live with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and about 60,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. Despite being a progressive disease, people who live for years with the PD, such as Golden Globe-nominated actor Michael J. Fox have lived fulfilling lives.
Dr. Simon Corpus Crispy, a geriatric physician suffering from PD, shares his personal story of PD and how he came to conquer it in his new memoir, “Mr. Parkinson’s and Me: A Memoir” (published by AuthorHouse).
When Crispy’s foot began to tingle one day he thought very little of it, but the tingle soon turned into much more. He was soon diagnosed with PD, and his career and relationships changed forever. “Mr. Parkinson’s and Me” captures Crispy’s struggle to live a normal life and his fight against the discrimination of PD patients in the workplace.
Through his book, Crispy hopes to promote understanding between PD patients and those around them.
An excerpt from “Mr. Parkinson’s and Me”:
“Christmas Eve of 1994 in San Antonio rang in with me sitting in a little apartment alone with the cats. I savored a cigar with a glass of fine cognac. I’m not usually a smoker or drinker, but on special occasions I indulge. Spending Christmas Eve by myself wasn’t special, of course, but I figured I should make the best of it.”
