Teen was too “affluent” to understand the consequences of drinking and driving and killing four people, but now the taxpayers of Texas have to pay for his rehab because his parents can’t afford the facility costs. In what universe does this make sense?
Ethan Couch was convicted of intoxication manslaughter for a 2013 crash that killed four people and injured several others. He avoided jail time and was sentenced to probation with time in a rehab facility. A defense expert during the trial said Couch suffered from “affluenza,” which he said affects children from wealthy families who have a sense of entitlement and make bad decisions.
The parents of Ethan Couch will only have to pay a small part of his $715 a day rehab treatment at a state hospital. His family is only required to pay $1,170 per month – less than two days per month of treatment. This is the rate the state decided his parents could afford on a sliding scale.
BS–wait till 21..hang’em
Isn’t this always how it happens. The rich will find a way through their lawyers to always duck responsibility and leave the taxpayers holding the bag for their misdeeds!!
Not only “NO”, but “Hell No”.
Its really obvious there are two justice systems in the US. One for the rich who can buy justice, and another for the poor who get no justice.
And none of the courts, judges, lawyers, and Attorney Generals are embarrassed or ashamed. Its business as usual.
sadly you are correct…
