Raisin in the Sun enjoys a winning night at the 2014 Tony Awards

raisin in the sunRaisin in the Sun is enjoying a winning night at the 2014 Tony Awards. Although Denzel Washington was not even nominated, Sophie Okonedo was selected as the winner of  the 2014 Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play. Kenny Leon won for Best Direction.

While backstage speaking with the media, Leon was blunt that he felt like Denzel Washington was snubbed when he was not even nominated for a Tony Award. But then he had to rush back out to accept the production’s Best Revival play.

Look, I love Denzel as much as anyone, but we all know he is really too old for the role. But at the end of the day I am delighted to see this wonderful play enjoy another day in the sun.
