One person was killed and at least five others injured when violence unfolded at two BET Awards pre-show parties this weekend in Los Angeles.

In one incident, a man was shot to death and four others injured at an overnight gathering at Monalizza Restaurant and Banquet Hall in the 1100 block of Vermont Avenue, Officer Madison of the Los Angeles Police Department told TheWrap.

The shooting occurred around 5:17 a.m. on Sunday when a gunman opened fire on a crowd of partygoers, the LAPD said. It was unclear if the shooting happened inside or outside of the restaurant police said.
