In the wake of the President’s immigration action, his message to Republicans has been pretty clear: pass a bill. In the more than 500 days since the Senate passed bipartisan immigration reform, House Republicans have failed to act. Even Republicans think that the House’s inaction is shameful.
Here’s what Senator Lindsey Graham said on today’s State of the Union.
Borger: You’ve heard the president himself say pass a bill. We’ve counted, 11 times between Thursday and Friday, you passed a bill in the Senate, you handed it to the House of Representatives, the House of Representatives –Â
Graham:Â Right.Â
Borger:Â Â — Decided not to do anything on it. It’s just sitting there. So doesn’t the House have a responsibility here?Â
Graham:Â Yes. Shame on us as Republicans. Shame on us as republicans for having a body that cannot generate a solution to an issue that is national security, that’s cultural and it’s economic. The Senate has done this three times. I love my House colleagues but if you want–a piecemeal approach
Borger:Â Â You do?Â
Graham:Â Do it. Doing nothing — well, I do.Â
Borger:Â You do?Â
Graham:Â I’m close to the people in the House but I’m disappointed in my party.
So with the voices of disappointment in House Republicans raising on both sides of the aisle, one must wonder what, exactly, they’re waiting for.
