Grand Jury decides to NOT indict Darren Wilson

michael brownThe grand jury in Ferguson has decided to not indict Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Mike Brown. Wilson faced five possible charges but the grand jury determined there was no evidence to indict him.

The prosecutor Robert McCulloch opened with sympathies to Michael Brown who was killed by Officer Darren Wilson and within minutes accounts via social media contained inaccurate info. He said all physical evidence gathered and all witnesses would be presented to the grand jury. He discussed the pledge from U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to go where the evidence would take us. All evidence obtained by federal and county parties was shared with the grand jury.

According to testimony, Wilson and Brown had a confrontation at the driver’s window of his Officer Wilson’s police car. McCulloch states the blood and DNA were found outside the door of Officer Wilson. References to the conflicted testimony were discussed.

The exchange between Brown and Wilson lasted approximately 90 seconds.

He spent his time criticizing social media and the 24 hour news cycle and said it helps to feed the distrust in the community. Many witnesses made statements that did not match their earlier statements. Others claim Wilson shot Brown in the back, but the evidence showed that was not true according to McCulloch. Almost all initial interviews including the one with Wilson according to him.

When asked if he plans to prosecute the witnesses that gave conflicting evidence, he said no. According to McCulloch he believed some of the witnesses really believe they saw something that the evidence proves is not possible. He said African Americans testified Brown did charge toward Officer Wilson, paused and Brown began approaching Wilson again.

The grand jury heard over 70 hours of testimony from about 60 witnesses over the 25 days the 12 members of the grand jury met.
