Irving Police: Capital Murder charges issued in death of 2 year old stepson

Michael-MercadoThe Irving Police Department issued the following announcement:

On Friday, November 21, 2014, the Irving Police Department arrested  25-year-old Michael Mercado for capital murder. The arrest is the result of a preliminary investigation that  began on Wednesday, November 19, when officers were dispatched to a 9-1-1 phone call from Mercado’s residence in the 4000 block of N. Beltline Road. Mercado reported that his 2-year-old step-son, Dionicio  Mendoza, was suffering from a seizure. Mendoza was taken to Children’s Medical Center and placed on life  support due to multiple serious internal injuries. On November 21, Mendoza passed away as a result of his  injuries.

Detectives found that Mercado had been home alone with Mendoza prior to the 9-1-1 call. An arrest warrant was obtained for Mercado and he was taken into custody. He is currently in the Irving City Jail on a charge of  Capital Murder with no bond allowed.
