Alpha Phi Alpha Bowie State chapter facing $3M hazing lawsuit

A Bowie State University student has filed a $3 million lawsuit claiming he was hazed while joining the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

Kevin Hayes alleges he was beaten, body-slammed, spanked with a wooden paddle on a daily basis between September 2013 and December 2013. He said he recently hired an attorney because he couldn’t take the continued harassment.

“He was beaten on a nightly basis, from five to eight hours a night,” Hayes’ attorney Jimmy Bell said.
