Friday, May 22, and Monday, May 25 have been designated as the bad weather make-up days for two days that Irving ISD was closed due to inclement weather this year. The district plans to request a waiver from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for the third bad weather day. If the TEA approves the waiver, the district would not have to make up the third missed day.

Each year, district officials build two bad weather make-up days into the school calendar. This year, the days designated as such were Monday, February 16, and Friday, May 22. Because no bad weather had occurred before February 16, the day was observed as a holiday for students and teachers. The Metroplex then endured an ice storm the following week, and school was cancelled February 23 and 24. The district closed again the following Thursday, March 5.

According to the adopted school calendar, Friday, May 22, is a designated bad weather make-up day. The first of the snow days will be made up then. At March 24th school board meeting, the Board of Trustees approved Memorial Day (Monday, May 25, which was originally a district holiday) as the second bad weather make-up day.
