Blake Barr: Freshman from Eastfield College earns national pitching honor

blakeMESQUITE —Eastfield College freshman Blake Barr was named the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division III Pitcher of the Week for March 9-15.

Barr turned in a strong performance in a 10-0 shutout of conference rival Brookhaven College on March 7, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out eight batters in a complete-game victory.

The 6-foot-3, 175-pound right-hander from Midlothian is 4-1 this season with a 1.57 ERA. He has struck out 33 batters in five games while walking just six.

Eastfield College, which won the 2011 NJCAA Division III World Series, is currently

ranked third in the Top 10 national poll. The Harvesters are 15-6 overall and 6-4 in the Metro Athletic Conference. They will travel to Mountain View for a three-game series this weekend, playing a single game on Friday and a doubleheader Saturday.
