Diane Ragsdale has spent her whole adult life working for the uplift of poor and marginalized families, especially those who live in South Dallas. Now the community wants to thank her for her many years of community activism, leadership and service on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 12 noon, at TBAAL – The Black Academy of Arts and Letters. Tickets are $10 with all proceeds going to ICDC, a community based non-profit serving the South Dallas/Fair Park community.
After serving on the Dallas City Council from 1984-1991, Ragsdale created a non-profit organization called South Dallas-Fair Park Inner-city Community Corporation (ICDC)
to address the issue of decent affordable housing for South Dallas resident, as well as, those folks interested in moving to South Dallas. Since the early 1990’s ICDC has build over 350 homes in South Dallas for low to moderate income families.
Community leaders are concerned that South Dallas is ripe for gentrification by developers and others who would push people out of the community. While the city has reaped greatly from the growth of Uptown, it came at the cost of the State Thomas neighborhood which historically included low income minority families.
Therefore, to bring a halt to the potential displacement of South Dallas families, community leaders are call on Dallas citizens to support organizations like ICDC, South Fair, Echo and other community development corporations to ensure housing justice for all.
Those who are interested in supporting the event, but unable to attend on Saturday, they are invited to send a financial donation to ICDC, at 4907 Spring Avenue Dallas, Texas 75210
