City of McKinney seeks community input for Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update

McKinneyThe City of McKinney invites residents to attend a community vision meeting for the Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update at 6 p.m. on Oct. 28 at the McKinney Senior Recreation Center, 1400 S. College St. Discussions will include city parks, trails, open space, land preservation and acquisition, ordinance updates, recreation and facilities.

McKinney currently has 46 parks which are included in the more than 2,300 acres of open spaces, parks, recreation centers and sports complexes. To ensure the community’s vision for growth blends with the Parks and Recreation Department goal to maintain and preserve the city’s natural beauty while at the same time meeting the needs of its citizens, the city is updating the Parks and Recreation Master Plan so future parks, open spaces, hike and bike trails and recreational facilities will be integrated into the planning of infrastructure, buildings and neighborhoods as the city develops.

“A successful parks and recreation system cannot happen without the valuable input from the people who use it, so we are holding this meeting to get the community’s comments and ideas,” said Rhoda Savage, Director of the Parks and Recreation Department.
