The second pass will begin Tuesday, Jan. 19, and continue through Saturday, Jan. 30.
If the first pass is not complete Friday, trucks will run Saturday. No debris removal activities will occur Sunday or Monday. Important: Garland’s debris removal crews will not pick up debris generated or moved to the curb by contractors. Property owners must work with their contractors to remove such debris. Garland’s storm debris crews also will not pick up household waste, recycling or other bulky goods. Regular trash and recycling collection crews are working the area on normal collection days to manage trash and recycling.
- Separate the different types of waste on the curb or in the alley.
- City crews cannot access private property to collect any type of waste, so make sure it is on the appropriate right-of-way and not blocking streets or alleys.
- Try not to place storm debris underneath existing trees, to prevent damage to the tree and improve access by the debris removal crews.
Hazardous Household Waste
The City is helping storm survivors deal with household hazardous waste items that cannot be included in the curbside trash or debris collections.
A trailer is set up at 401 Oaks Trail and is open to Garland and Rowlett residents from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Residents will need to provide proof of residency. Items to be collected at this location include flammable materials such as kerosene and paint thinners, corrosive materials such as acids used in some cleaning solutions, toxic materials such as pesticides, chlorinated solvents, aerosol cans, motor oil and filters, leftover paint, batteries and gas cylinders.
