Former SMU Running Back, Reggie Dupard, is included in the group of six inductees to the 2016 SMU Athletics Hall of Fame. Dupard has been chosen for a focus of athletic alumni who have made a positive impact in the community. He will be recognized for his non-profit work with Texans Can Academy, where he is currently employed as the College Career Coordinator. He also volunteers with two other nonprofit organizations, Fit & Faithful Living and The Boys & Girls Club.
Dupard is known as one of the greats in SMU Football history. As a running back from 1982-85, Dupard helped the Mustangs cinch both an SWC Championship and a National Championship in 1982. He earned All-Conference honors and was named an All-American. After being drafted in the first round by the New England Patriots in 1986, Dupard played five years in the league for both the New England Patriots and Washington Redskins.
Currently spending his days employed with Texans Can as their College Career Coordinator, he focuses on preparing students for college and making sure they succeed once there; not only in their classes but in their integration into campus life and after they graduate and enter the workforce.
Dupard says the most rewarding aspect of his job is, “to empower students and make sure they have the tools and resources they need in order to succeed in college and their careers. Our jobs don’t stop once the students receive their diplomas from Texans Can, we want to see them move on to bigger and better things beyond high school.”
