If there is any music artist that shaped my generation it was Prince and how according to several outlets he is rumored to have passed away today. Outlets ranging from the New York Times to TMZ are reporting that his body was found at his at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota.

Prince Nelson Rogers at one point was also known as “the artist formerly known as Prince” during a disagreement he had with the studio at one point. He launched the careers of others such as Shelia E and wrote music for others that we loved such as:

  • “Gigolos Get Lonely Too” (released 1982 by The Time)
  • “Manic Monday” (released 1986 by The Bangles)
  • “Nothing Compares 2 U“ by Sinead O’Connor
  • “How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore“ by Alicia Keys
  • “I Feel For You“ by Chaka Khan

Unfortunately I never saw him perform in person, but his performances on TV were always DVR worthy. Prince did not confine himself to the boundaries of music or style. Not too many men could dance in six in heels and still be called sexy by the ladies.

He burst on the scene with songs such as “Do Me Baby”, and “I Want to be Your Lover” and “International Lover” – you did not want to be riding in the car with your mama when these songs came on. He was a little more mainstream with his “Little Red Corvette” and “Signs of the Times” album.

Then he blew us away when he decided to become a film maker and starred in 1983’s Purple Rain with the title song remaining an anthem to this day.

Here are a few of my favorite songs from Prince:

  • Delirious
  • I Would Die 4 U
  • Diamonds and Pearls
  • D.M.S.R.
  • and of course, Still Waiting

What was your favorite songs by the incomparable Prince? Did you ever see him perform live?
