HIGH FIVE Irving 5-0

high fiveIrving Mayor Beth Van Duyne believes respect for police officers needs to be front and center. To foster and encourage that respect, Van Duyne has recently announced a new program called HIGH FIVE Irving 5-0.

“While officers work to prevent crime, they also spend much of their time building community trust,” said Van Duyne. “Most people don’t stop to think about the good police provide each and every day. These are our neighbors, our protectors and the role models who help our children.”

Irving Police are community-focused and have established numerous outreach programs that address various ages, demographics and needs.

The Irving Police Department works hard to engender trust in the community. Irving officers integrate into the community through the many programs the department has established. From involvement with Irving high schools, to volunteer work at IPD’s Police Athletic League to Juntos, the department’s Spanish language outreach initiative, Irving officers develop relationships throughout the community. Relationships prevent crime, and IPD is focused on prevention.

Van Duyne feels so strongly about officer respect that she has challenged other mayors throughout North Texas to encourage their residents to “high five” their 5-0.

“The media focus on issues,” says Van Duyne. “Police are doing extraordinary work out there, and we need to support them by saying ‘thank you.’”
