Get the press, as Roger Ailes resigns his positions of Chairman and CEO of Fox News channel, Fox Business Network and Chairmen of Fox Television Stations.
According to the Washington Post, Ailes job has been in question for the past week or so, amid a budding sexual harassment scandal. The powerful executive was accused of harassment in a lawsuit filed two weeks ago by former network host Gretchen Carlson, who said Ailes pressured her for a sexual relationship in exchange for keeping her position as a host of a Fox News program.
The Washington Post also reported “21st Century Fox co-chairman Rupert Murdoch will take over as CEO and chairman of the Fox News Channel and the Fox Business Network, the company said.”
Before Ailes was at Fox News, the Washington Post mentioned that Ailes was a media consultant for Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, George H.W Bush and for Rudy Giuliani in his first campaign for the position of New York mayor.
They also reported that the new Chairmen of Fox News, Rupert Murdoch had positive things to say about Ailes, during the allegations
“Roger Ailes has made a remarkable contribution to our company and our country. “, Said Rupert Murdoch. ”Roger shared my vision of a great and independent television organization and executed it brilliantly over 20 great years.”
Murdoch’s sons Lachlan and James stand behind their father’s decision to support Ailes during the allegations of him sexual harassing Ms. Carlson.
The Washington Post, quotes a direct statement from Lachlan’s sons. In their statement, they say “We join our father in recognizing Roger’s remarkable contributions to our company. Our talented Fox News and Fox Business colleagues, up and down the organization and on both sides of the camera, have built something that continues to redefine the cable news experience for millions of viewers. We are enormously proud of their accomplishments. For them, as well as for our colleagues across our entire organization, we continue our commitment to maintaining a work environment based on trust and respect.”
Although the allegations still continue, Ailes continues to deny them even though more allegations are coming back up that go all the way back up to mid-1960’s.
If the allegations are true, Roger Ailes was a great contributor to Fox News and will be missed.
Roger Ailes resigned his position immediately on July 21.
