Will Abbott share the stage with Trump at Austin Rally Tuesday?

Governor Gregg Abbott has called out Donald Trump before - will be be bold when Trump comes to town for a rally?
Texas Governor Gregg Abbott has called out Donald Trump before – will be be bold when Trump comes to town for a rally?

Donald Trump’s campaign for President has announced it will hold a Tuesday evening rally in Austin, TX. The biggest question for Texas voters:  Will Texas Republican leaders show up?

Greg Abbott, Dan Patrick, George P. Bush, Sid Miller and indicted AG Ken Paxton have all endorsed the divisive and destructive GOP nominee—will they welcome Trump to Texas and take the stage with him on Tuesday?

Will Republicans who have been “waiting” on Trump – like Will Hurd in Congressional District 23 –  finally guts up and join Trump, or keep hiding behind weak, passive and dishonest excuses?

Will Greg Abbott keep his word and use Trump’s Austin visit to denounce the toxic and destructive rhetoric of Trump’s campaign? Just two years ago, Greg Abbott told highly respected McAllen Monitor Editor Carlos Sanchez that it was his responsibility as the head of the Texas Republican Party to tone down hateful and divisive rhetoric within the GOP. Here’s what Abbott said:

Abbott: “anytime anyone says anything that is either derogatory, or sends the wrong message, or is flat out false, then we’re going to make sure to set the record straight.”

Carlos Sanchez then followed up by asking Abbott, “So as the party’s leader now, you feel an obligation to tone down this rhetoric?” Abbott said, “absolutely.”

Abbott can make good on his pledge to Texans by using Trump’s visit as an opportunity to denounce Trump and encourage other Texas Republicans to join him and other honorable Republicans who have rebuked the GOP nominee.
