No. 4-ranked Eastfield volleyball team headed to national tournament

The Eastfield Harvesters defeated Brookhaven College 3-1 (25-27, 25-15, 25-21, 25-16) on Saturday, Oct. 29, to win the Region V Volleyball Tournament and secure a spot in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III national tournament on Nov. 11-12 in Rochester, Minnesota.

The Harvesters (24-4), who went undefeated in league play to capture their first Metro Athletic Conference regular-season championship since 1994, will be making their first trip to the national tournament since 2013, when they finished sixth.
In the championship match, Eastfield was led by freshman Courtanae Calhoun, a Garland High graduate, with 20 kills, 5 block assists and 1 solo block. Kerstin Frederickson, a Stephenville High graduate, added 13 kills and 11 digs, while Karina Lay of Frisco Liberty had a team-high 27 digs, Alyssa Jimenez of Carrollton Creekview contributed 20 digs and a service ace, and Cailey Clogston of Crosby added 16 digs and 7 kills.
In their first tournament match on Friday, the Harvesters cruised to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-11) victory over North Lake. Frederickson tallied 10 kills and nine digs in the victory, Jimenez had 20 assists and 12 digs, and Lay contributed 27 digs.
