The city of Dallas is buzzing about a brand new school opening in the fall. After a rigorous proposal process, the Dallas Independent School District’s CityLab High School is set to launch in August of 2017 with 100 incoming ninth-graders.
With its focus on urban planning, environmental science, and architecture, the school has found a natural home in the Pegasus Complex in Downtown Dallas. Here, students will be able to easily use the city as a lab to ground their learning and explore the diverse social fabric and neighborhoods of Dallas.
CityLab High School is one of five Dallas ISD Transformation Schools that are currently accepting applications for the 2017-2018 school year. The other schools are Solar Preparatory; Eduardo Mata Montessori; D.A. Hulcy STEAM Middle School; and the Innovation, Design, Entrepreneurship Academy (IDEA) at Fannin.
These schools offer specialized academic programming, similar to Magnet Schools but without academic entry requirements, because all children deserve a best-fit school that taps into their individual interests, learning styles, and aspirations. Transformation Schools are open enrollment for all students, regardless of academic ability. Transportation will be provided districtwide within certain parameters.
