Viola Davis is finally a Golden Girl

Viola Davis wearing a glorious yellow dress, after five nominations is a Golden Globe Winner, including one each of the last three years finally is taking a gold statue home. The actress who has made her mark in Hollywood with numerous standout roles is the 2017 Golden Globe winner the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in Fences.

In her emotional acceptance speech Davis alluded to the fact that five times she wore the dress, took the pictures but until tonight never won. She thanked her co-star and director Denzel Washington for asking her to trust him as they brought to the big screen the roles they played and won awards and acclaim on Broadway stage.

She finished by honoring her father, “the original Tony”, who was born in 1936 and with only a fifth-grade education, did not learn to read until he was 15. However, as she proclaimed his story deserved to be told, and August Wilson’s Fences told his stories and the countless other unknown Tonys.
