SMU invites the community to 9/11 anniversary ceremony

Firefighters from the 507th Civil Engineer Squadron trade the U.S. flag and an axe during the 5th annual fire climb Sept. 7, 2014, at the fire training tower at Tinker Air Force Base, Okla. The axe and flag were pieces of several packs carried up and down the tower stairs as members of the CES and the wing climbed the equivalent of 110 stories to commemorate the 343 firefighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics who lost their lives during the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Centers. The SMU Police Department and first responders from the surrounding community will commemorate the 18th anniversary of 9/11 with a ceremony honoring the police officers and firefighters who lost their lives in the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Gerald Turner, SMU Police Chief Jim Walters and Patrick Mordente, USAF, director of the George W. Bush Library and Museum.

The ceremony is to honor the police officers and firefighters who lost their lives in the 9/11 terror attacks on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 8:45 a.m. The event will be held at the flagpole on SMU’s historic Main Quad, at the north end of Bishop Boulevard. The event is free and open to the public.
